Warner Bros. is launching a broad-based campaign to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the release of the Wizard of Oz on August 25, 1939, including a new theatrical release, new home video editions, merchandise, and promotional partnerships. 

The film has been painstakingly digitally re-mastered into Imax 3D format and will have a one-week-only theatrical release in Imax theaters in North America beginning September 20, 2013. 

Then on October 1st, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment will release four new home video editions of the film.  The top-of-the-line package will be The Wizard of Oz 75th Anniversary Collector’s Edition, a five-disc limited and numbered set with collectibles including a 75th Anniversary journal, Sparkle Ruby Slippers Globe, Noble Collection three-piece enamel pin set, a map of Oz, and a 48-page hardcover book.  The discs will include Blu-ray, Blue-ray 3D, DVD, and UltraViolet versions of the film, a new documentary, The Making of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, and bonus features.  This version will carry a $105.43 MSRP. 

Three other versions will be offered:  a two-disc 3D/Blu-ray ($35.99), a one-disc Blu-ray ($19.98), and a two disc DVD ($16.95), all with the documentary and other bonus features.

New merchandise from over 80 licensees will also be launched, including products in the collectible, publishing, toys and games, slot machines, and personal care categories (nice assortment).

Promotional activity will include a QSR promotion; a balloon in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade; tie-ins with Amtrak, QVC, and Simon Malls, among others; and a PSA campaign with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
