Konami Digital Entertainment continues to expand its Yu-Gi-Oh! tournament outreach programs with a series of "Official Tournament Store Championships." These events, limited to select official tournament stores, will act as additional Qualifier tournaments for Konami’s World Championship Qualifiers.
Konami’s Vice President for Card Business Yumi Hoashi described the program to ICv2:
"We call them OTS Championships. And they’ll get a special mat for the OTS Championship as well, which will be different from the Regional Qualifier."
"This is an opportunity for Regional Qualification as well, so it feeds into our WCQ. So, it’s just a way to provide more opportunities for our player base to qualify into our WCQ."
Hoashi explained that the program will begin in a limited number of tournament stores during the initial rollout, with additional stores being added over time.
ICv2 had an opportunity to interview Hoashi at the San Diego Comic-Con. More from that interview can be found here: "Interview: 'YGO!' Sales Up 40%."
