Coming off a successful second TableTop Day (see “TableTop 2014 Scheduled”), the show has begun a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo for the third season of TableTop. The campaign, which began Saturday, is targeting $500,000 to fund 15 episodes for the third season or $750,000 for 20 episodes, “with a quality that is worthy of broadcast TV,” and want to do it without outside investors.
If funding hits $1 million, a new show featuring TableTop star Wil Wheaton playing a season-long RPG campaign will be launched.
YouTube funded the first two seasons of TableTop, part of Felicia Day's Geek and Sundry channel, as part of a major program to expand original programming on the site (see “’TableTop’ Second Season”).
The show has been a huge boon to game companies and retailers, accounting for an average increase in sales of 79% in the months after a game’s appearance (see “The ‘TableTop’ Bump”).
The campaign is going great so far. As of Sunday night, with 34 days to go, it’s already raised over $308,000. Unlike Kickstarter campaigns, Indiegogo campaigns collect the money from backers and distribute it to project creators even if the campaign does not achieve its goal, although that seems like a low-odds outcome at this point.
