Cryptozoic Entertainment has announced the inclusion of a limited edition bonus card that will be included in the first printing of their new The Hobbit:  An Unexpected Journey Deck Building Game.

The "Radagast" Wizard Hero Promo Card* will be available in first edition printings of the game, which releases July 16th.  The Hobbit deck building game was one of the first planned releases announced by Cryptozoic when it acquired The Hobbit movie license in 2012 (see "Six 'Hobbit' and 'LOTR' Games"), but they later opted to release board games first (see "'The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug Board Game'").

In The Hobbit:  An Unexpected Journey Deck Building Game, players take the roles of a member of The Company on the journey to Lonely Mountain. Players’ individual Hero cards guide their strategy through the game, or they can break away and plot their own course.  Players gather Enemies, Allies, Artifacts, Maneuvers and Locations cards to direct their actions.  Once a player has gathered enough Power, they can face an Archenemy to acquire Loot. The eventual goal is to acquire the most Victory Points.

The box contains 212 game cards, 7 oversized Hero cards, and a rulebook.  The game is for 2 – 5 players, ages 15 and up, and plays in 30 – 45 minutes.  MSRP is $40.00

The game is a standalone title, but also compatible with other Cerberus engine Middle Earth releases (The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and The Return of the King Deck Building Game).

*Please note that in an earlier edition of this article, based on Cryptozoic info, we reported that the promo card was the "Oin the Dwarf" Hero card. Cryptozoic has since corrected the information.
