Score's next release for its Epic Battles TCG, Mortal Kombat Premier Set, will be offered to the hobby channel. The initial release for the game was exclusive to Blockbuster, although hobby retailers were offered organized play events (see 'Score Explains Epic Battles Strategy').
The change in strategy was the result of feedback from its customers, according to Score marketing manager Deanna Cass. 'The decision to open the sale of the Epic Battles TCG was brought about by a need to answer product demand and better support the playing community,' she said. 'Hobby retailers and players conveyed their concerns about product availability, and we listened.'
Mortal Kombat Premier Set will be released in $11.99 starters (50 commons, 10 rares, a rulebook and a playmat), and $3.29 boosters (8 commons and two rares). This set will include some cards from the first release, and some new, never released cards.
Organized play will include local, regional, and premier events. Hobby retailers in Score Entertainment's Verified Events Network will be able to receive tournament kits and co-host regional events. King Cards, completing select King Card Collections will be among the prizes and promos awarded to players.
