Terri Libenson’s Surprisingly Sarah, which debuted at number 11 in May (see "May 2023 Circana BookScan"), returned for another month, this time at number 20. This is the seventh volume of Libenson’s Adventures in Middle School series, one of a handful of series that reliably show up in the Top 20 whenever a new volume is released.
Similarly, June’s number 2 title is FGTEEV: Out of Time, the fourth volume of a graphic novel series based on a family that plays video games together on YouTube. Its fast-paced, cartoony humor propels it into the Top 20 whenever a new volume comes out, and this is the fourth since January 2020, when the first book debuted at number 3 (see "January 2020 NPD BookScan").
Sometimes a new book will have a ripple effect: Jerry Craft’s School Trip debuted in the April 2023 Top 20 (see "April 2023 Circana BookScan") but didn’t show up in May; nonetheless, it may have given the earlier New Kid a boost, as it’s back on the chart after being away for a while.
