Topping the chart is the hardcover edition of Volume 4 of Lore Olympus, the Webtoon sensation, and the paperback is at number 4. It has become a common pattern with Author titles such as this one and The Adventure Zone that the hardcover tends to outsell the paperback, at least for the first few months.
There’s one more non-manga title on the chart, and it’s TMNT: The Last Ronin, a perennial Top 20 title these days.
The other 17 titles are manga, and they can be divided into three groups: There are first and second volumes of long-time best-sellers such as Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, Spy x Family, Jujutsu Kaisen, Berserk, and Chainsaw Man, plus the most recent volume and the first volume of My Hero Academia. There are new volumes of two ongoing series that typically only chart when a new volume comes out, Dragon Ball Super and Komi Can’t Communicate.
And then there are some new titles. Spider-Man: Fake Red, the latest Marvel manga (published by VIZ Media); Goodbye Eri, a one-shot story by the creator of Chainsaw Man that got to fifth place despite being released in the last week of the month; and two volumes of [Oshi no Ko], a Yen Press title about a doctor and his patient who are reincarnated as the twin children of a pop idol. Volume 2 of [Oshi no Ko] was on the May Manga chart (see "May 2023 Circana BookScan"), and the series seems to be gaining momentum; the English dub of the anime debuted in late May, so presumably that is helping sales.
As for Spider-Man: Fake Red, the Marvel manga seem to be doing well, sales-wise, although they don’t hit the BookScan Top 20 too often. Volume 2 of Deadpool: Samurai charted when it was first released (see "June 2022 NPD BookScan"), and Volume 1 was one of the top selling manga of 2022 in the stores that use ComicHub (see "Full Year 2022 – Top Manga Titles"). So it’s not too surprising that Spider-Man: Fake Red made the June chart. That said, Wolverine: Snikt!, by Knights of Sidonia creator Tsutomu Nihei, debuted on June 27 and did not make the Top 20; it will be interesting to see if it shows up in the July Top 20.
