Compact superhero graphic novels are hotter than a San Diego sidewalk in July, while Author titles seem to be in a rut and manga stays the (anime-led) course, according to the chart of the Top 20 best-selling Author, Manga, and Superhero graphic novels according to Circana (formerly NPD) BookScan data for July 2025 (7/6/25 – 8/2/25) provided to ICv2.

Two TMNT titles top the Superhero chart, of course but below that, DC Comics dominates, with 14 of the Top 20 titles.  Seven of those are Compact Comics, and it's fascinating to see that both All-Star Superman and Kingdom Come are on the chart in both regular and compact formats.  Since the Compact Comics are designed to be accessible and inexpensive, it's not surprising that they are selling well during the vacation months, and perhaps the increased interest is bringing readers who prefer a larger trim size to the regular editions as well.  Two of Marvel Comics' Premier Editions also make the cut; there aren't as many of these yet, so it's hard to do a side-by-side comparison.

These new formats plus the new TMNT graphic novel mean that the Superhero chart is looking fresher, with lots of new releases (even if most of those new releases are repackaged older comics).

By contrast, there’s only one new title on the Author Top 20: Ew, It’s Beautiful, the second collection of the webcomic False Knees. And two new-ish titles: Alison Bechdel’s Spent and the hardcover edition of Vol. 8 of Lore Olympus, both of which were released in May.

Aside from that, the chart looks a lot like it always does. Solo Leveling may not have made it into the Adult Top 20 (see "July 2025 Circana BookScan"), but it's well represented in the Author Top 20, with 11 of the 12 volumes making the cut.  Three volumes of Invincible Compendium also return to the chart, along with a number of frequent flyers such as They Called Us Enemy.

Since the Adult Top 20 was dominated by manga, the Manga Top 20 looks very similar. Note the addition of another volume of Blue Lock, a new volume of One-Punch Man, and the first volume of Dandadan, all of which reinforce the notion that anime is driving sales here.

Circana collects weekly point-of-sale data on print books from over 16,000 locations including e-tailers, chains, mass merchandisers, independent bookstores, and more.  Circana covers approximately 85% of the U.S. trade print book market.  The ranks on this chart are based on piece sales.  Some publishers classify titles that are primarily text, or art books, as graphic novels; we've removed those titles from the ranking above.
