New Line's Golden Compass (see 'Best in Shows 2007, Part 2'), which opens December 7th, is getting massive advertising, promotional, and licensing support, as befits the handling of the first in what is hoped to become a major film trilogy.
According to New Line, the promotional programs will include $50 million in ad support. Among the promotions are a global theater concession program from Coca Cola, cooperation with World Wildlife Fund, a Burger King kids meal, a Black Friday promotion from New Line in which a free ticket to the movie is included in 13 of its top DVD titles at retailers nationwide, and retailer promotional support from Borders, Barnes & Noble, Best Buy, Circuit City, Target, FAO Schwartz, Scholastic Book Fairs, and Trans World Entertainment.
Over 75 licensees are producing Golden Compass products, including Corgi (see 'Corgi's Golden Compass Toy Line'), Inkworks (see 'Inkworks Has the Golden Compass'), Scholastic, and Random House. Sega is the videogame licensee, and plans the December 1 release of a videogame adaptation of the film on seven platforms, with extensive ad and promo support.
