Freddy Krueger will return in a new Nightmare on Elm Street film series from New Line produced by Platinum Dunes (Michael Bay, Brad Fuller, and Andrew Form).  The powerhouse property has accounted for nine features, two TV series, and tons of licensed merchandise in its previous incarnation.  There's no writer yet, and none will be assigned until after the strike is settled.

Platinum is making something of a specialty of rehabilitating aging horror franchises.  It already released its new version of Texas Chainsaw Massacre (see 'Leatherface Can't Catch the Departed'), and plans to start shooting a new Friday the 13th in May (directed by Marcus Nispel, who also directed Texas Chainsaw Massacre).
