Playmates, the company that held the Star Trek toy license for much of the 1990s, but dropped it in 2000, has acquired the license to create toys for the new J.J. Abrams-directed Star Trek film that is now due out in the spring of 2009 (see 'Trek Movie Transported to Spring').  Playmates' line of Star Trek toys for the new movie will ship in the early spring of 2009.  Diamond Select Toys continues to have the license for all previous TV and movie iterations of Star Trek.

The Playmates Star Trek movie lineup will reportedly include 3.75' and 6' action figures as well as a line of 12' action figures targeting collectors, plus a number of vehicles including, naturally, the cool new version of the Starship Enterprise.
