Now that the smoke has cleared from the bankruptcy of Japanese toy distributor Reds, it appears that it will not delay any releases of Kaiyodo toys and figures here in the U.S., where they are distributed exclusively by Diamond Comic Distributors. Kaiyodo Managing Director Shuichi Miyawaki wrote Diamond in a letter dated April 8, 2003, 'We at Kaiyodo are disappointed with Reds' bankruptcy, but please rest assured that you will see no changes in the Kaiyodo products themselves.' Diamond's Import Toy Brand Manager Frank Supiot does 'not anticipate any changes to our previously announced release dates for all Kaiyodo products.' Kaiyodo has created some of the coolest action figures ever based on the classic 1990s science fiction anime, Neon Genesis Evangelion, and considering the continuing popularity of that classic series, which will soon be out in Japan in a new upgraded DVD edition, this is good news for retailers.
