According to the Hollywood Reporter, the Sci Fi Channel has ordered two more seasons of the groundbreaking Farscape television series from the Jim Henson Company and Hallmark Entertainment.  Created by Rockne S. O'Bannon, Farscape is now in its third year on the Sci Fi Channel.  The new agreement calls for 44 more episodes of the series, which will take it through its fourth and fifth seasons.  Sci Fi Channel President Bonnie Hammer views Farscape as 'the cornerstone of our original series line-up, helping Sci Fi to continue to attract new audiences.'  Many science fiction fans consider Farscape the best new science fiction series of the past decade.

The Farscape extension is good news for pop culture retailers because this series has spawned a plethora of products including trading cards from Rittenhouse Archives, action figures from Toy Vault, DVDs and videos from ADV, plus lots of books including mass market paperback adventures, episode guides for seasons 1 and 2, as well as the Farscape: The Illustrated Companion, a $12.95 trade paperback due out in January of 2002.
