Even as production on Alan Taylor’s Thor: The Dark World is well underway the casting announcements keep coming. The latest additions to Marvel Studio’s second Thor film are the veteran British actor Clive Russell who will portray Thor’s brother Tyr, the Asgardian God of War who lost a hand tussling with the wolf-god Ferris, and Richard Brake, who will play a captain of the Einherjar, warriors who died in battle and were brought to Valhalla by the Valkyries.
Russell, who has been seen most recently as Brynden Tully on HBO’s Game of Thrones, is veteran TV thespian who has appeared in all sorts of series in Blighty ranging from Coronation Street to Monarch of the Glen and Waking the Dead.
Brake is a Welsh/American actor with credits in numerous films including Cold Mountain, Munich, and The Black Dahlia, but he is perhaps best known to American fans for his performance as Joe Chill, the lowlife thug who murders Batman’s parents in Christopher Nolan’s Batman Begins.
Thor: The Dark World is slated to debut on November 8th, 2013. With production underway on the film, which appears to emphasize the fantasy side of the character with scenes in various "fantasy realms" such as Jotunheim, the land of the Frost Giants, and Svartalfheim, the home of the Dark Elves, there have been plenty of set photos released (see "'Thor 2' Shooting Photos" and "More 'Thor 2' Set Photos").
