DVD Out in U.S. First

A new 13-episode Ninja Scroll TV series, which is debuting on WOWOW in Japan this April, will be out on DVD in the U.S. in the fall. Yoshiaki Kawajiri, who directed and wrote the Ninja Scroll anime feature film, one of the best anime samurai films of all time, is writing the TV series, which continues where Kawajiri's award-winning feature left off. Based on Futaro Yamada's Jubei novels about a lone swordsman who upholds the samurai tradition in the face of the importation of western weapons and ideas, Ninja Scroll's hero is the Japanese equivalent of Robin Hood. If the quality of the TV series approaches that of the 94-minute Ninja Scroll movie, anime fans are in for a big treat when the Urban Vision releases the first volume of the TV series this fall.
