Sabertooth Games has announced plans for the second edition of its successful Warhammer 40K CCG. Planned for release late this year or early in 2004, The Horus Heresy will tell the story of an era that predates most of the 40K storyline. Only about ten pages of text have ever been published on this period, and it has never before been rendered visually. The "Horus Heresy" refers to a betrayal of the emperor by Horus, in a series of events that sets the stage for the conflict between Chaos and the Empire.
The design of the game will be by Ryan Miller and Luke Peterschmidt, who designed the original edition of the Warhammer 40K CCG. The game mechanics will be updated for the second edition, in response to player input since the release of the first edition. Packaging will be similar to previous Sabertooth CCGs, in the standard Starter Sets and Booster Packs.
