Man of Steel star Henry Cavill is in talks to replace Tom Cruise in Warner Bros.’ long-gestating feature film based on the 1960s Cold War TV spy series The Man From U.N.C.L.E.  Cruise bowed out of the project because of scheduling conflicts with Mission Impossible 5.  Warner Bros. has been developing The Man From U.N.C.L.E. feature film since 2004 (see "Warner Bros. Says 'U.N.C.L.E.'").

Warners quickly pounced on the idea of Cavill replacing Cruise in the Man From U.N.C.L.E. movie, which is being directed by Guy Ritchie (Sherlock Holmes).  The studio obviously likes what it has seen from Cavill in his first big role as Clark Kent/Superman in Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel, which isn’t slated to be released until June 14th.  Though only trailers have been released so far, public interest in the Superman reboot is high with the movie already tracking for a $100 million opening, so putting Cavill in the U.N.C.L.E. movie may not be as big a gamble as it appears at first glance.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Arnie Hammer (The Social Network, The Lone Ranger) is still attached to play Soviet agent Illya Kuryakin (played in the TV series by David McCallum), while the British born Cavill will take the role of the American spy Napoleon Solo (played on TV by Robert Vaughn).
