The legendary Stan Lee has cancelled his appearances at this year’s Comic-Con, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The 91-year-old co-creator of much of the Marvel Universe was to make appearances and conduct signings on both Friday and Saturday, but abruptly cancelled because he lost his voice due to laryngitis. Lee has been a fixture at major conventions and a tireless promoter of the industry (see "Bendis Joins Stan Lee in Promoting FCBD").
Lee’s spokesperson told The Hollywood Reporter: "Unfortunately Stan Lee has lost his voice due to laryngitis and is unable to attend this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, and has regrettably had to cancel his appearances. Stan is otherwise well and in good health, though he is disappointed to miss the event and wishes everyone a great time."
