Wizards of the Coast will release the Magic: The Gathering: Commander (2014 Edition) on November 7.
The 2014 release allows players of the fan-favorite multiplayer format to use a Planeswalker as the commander. Previously players chose a legendary creature as their commander/general, and built their decks around the commander’s colors. This release includes 61 new cards which will be legal in eternal formats (Vintage and Legacy) but not legal in Standard, Block Constructed, or Modern formats. There are 15 never-before-printed cards in each deck.
There are five different 100-card singleton decks in each display, each a pre-constructed Commander deck featuring its own special Planeswalker Commander, a foil oversized Commander card, 10 token cards and an insert. MSRP on each deck is $34.99.
This release will be followed by the annual M:TG Holiday Gift Box on November 14 (see "2014 'M:TG Holiday Gift Box'") and the Duel Decks: Anthology on December 8 (see "'M:TG Duel Decks--Anthology'").
