HBO’s Game of Thrones will have a limited run in IMAX theaters later this month, in the run-up to the launch of Season 5, according to Variety.  Game of Thrones is the first TV series to get an IMAX release.

HBO is digitally re-mastering the last two episodes of Season 4 in the IMAX format for the release, and is also providing an exclusive Season 5 trailer.

The special release will run from January 23 to 29 at 150 IMAX theaters in the U.S.

Season 4 of Game of Thrones hit 18.4 million viewers each week, making it the most popular series in HBO history (see "'Game of Thrones' Bigger than 'Walking Dead'?").  It’s also the most pirated show on television (see "Geek Shows Were Five of Top Six 'Most Pirated'").
