DC and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment are pulling out all the stops in support of the next DC OAV, Justice League: Gods and Monsters, which releases on July 28, including a 6" figure line, a comic series, and an animated series.
See gallery below for the first three figures.
The animated feature presents Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman with different, darker origins in a story that producer Bruce Timm says is closer to the The Authority comics in tone than to Justice League, with "an adult edge." The result is "…not gratuitously violent or sexy, but there is some violence and a little bit of sex," Timm said in a DC All Access video.
The feature is directed by Sam Liu (Batman: Year One) from an original story by Timm and co-producer Alan Burnett, who also wrote the screenplay. Voice talent includes Michael C. Hall as Batman, Benjamin Bratt as Superman, Tamara Taylor as Wonder Woman, Paget Brewster as Lois Lane, Jason Isaacs as Lex Luthor and C. Thomas Howell as Dr. Will Magnus.
In addition to the previously announced Machinima animated series supporting the launch (see "Exclusive 'Justice League' Animated Series"), DC will publish a digital-first comic series in daily installments to introduce the characters and the origin of the team, and a line of figures from DC Collectibles, due out this fall.
The top package of the video, the Justice League: Gods and Monsters Blu-ray Deluxe Edition ($29.96 MSRP) will include a Wonder Woman figure and the Blu-Ray Combo Pack in a numbered, limited edition set. The Blu-ray Combo Pack is $24.98, with a digital version of the movie on Digital HD with UltraViolet. A DVD version will also be available at $19.98.
Blu-ray versions include a documentary exploring the various attempts by writers that produced the feature, a Making of video, an encore presentation of the 2010 documentary about Jack Kirby’s New Gods, an advance look at the next feature, and bonus cartoons from the DC vault.
DC showed the first wave of figures from the series, Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman, which ship this fall.
