Marvel has announced Director’s Cut editions of both Star Wars #1 and Darth Vader #1, to street June 17. The expanded content will include not only the entire first issues, it will also include additional making-of material, including script pages and in-progress artwork. The original editions retailed for $4.99; the Director’s Cuts will retail for $5.99.
Star Wars #1 charted nearly a million copies in January (see "Top 300 Comics--January 2015"), and Darth Vader #1 over 264,000 copies in February (see "Top 300 Comics--February 2015"), with actual sales, including reprints and subsequent month sales, considerably larger.
Marvel has learned the nearly 40-year-old lesson well (see "ICv2 Interview: Papercutz' Terry Nantier and Jim Salicrup, Part 2"): if you’ve got a tiger by the tail with Star Wars, use the content in as many ways as possible. More to come.
