Singer/songwriter/actor Ruben Blades was announced as a series regular role for AMC’s upcoming The Walking Dead spinoff, playing the father of recently announced cast member Mercedes Mason, both reported by Deadline.

Blades’ (Safe House, Predator 2, Once Upon a Time in Mexico) role is described only as the father of Mercedes Mason’s character. Mason (666 Park Avenue, Quarantine 2: Terminal) will play Ofelia.  Elizabeth Rodriguez was also recently announced as an unnamed series regular (see “'Walking Dead' Spinoff Adds 'Orange is the New Black' Actress”).
 

The first six-episode season of Fear the Walking Dead will premiere this summer.
