Level 99 Games will release the new board game Millennium Blades, which seeks to create the metagame experience that surrounds collectible card games.  Trade release is planned for January 2016.  The game's recent Kickstarter campaign attracted nearly $250,000 from 2,600 backers.

In this "CCG Simulator Board Game," designed by D. Brad Talton Jr. (BattleCON:Devastation of Indines, Pixel Tactics) and illustrated by Fabio Fontes, players act as the collectors and players of a globally popular collectible card game called "Millennium Blades."  At the beginning, the players have only a modest “starter deck” that they expand and improve during the "Deckbuilding Phase" of each round, before pitting them against their opponents in the "Tournament Phase."  But much like the metagame that surrounds CCGs in the real world, winning tournaments is not the only key to victory.  Points are also awarded for having the most impressive collection, earning the most money in the aftermarket, and developing friendships with other players of the game.

Millennium Blades includes more than 500 game cards, two main game boards, five smaller player boards, and game tokens and money.  The game is for two to five players, and takes two or more hours to play.  MSRP is tentatively $60.00 for the base game, and $40.00 for the Set Rotation expansion.

Level 99 also plans to release two packs of promotional cards, which were available to Kickstarter backers and will be given away at conventions.  Level 99 Games’ D. Brad Talton Jr. told ICV2 that interested retailers can also obtain the cards for their customers, "[I]nterested retailers can show us a proof-of-purchase and receive them to give to customers while supplies last."
