Antarctica is a building and resource management game by French designer Charles Chevallier (Abyss, Masques, Continental Express). Players attempt to build research centers in Antarctica and collect resources. On their turn, a player can build buildings, recruit new scientist, build ships, or do scientific research, but this can only be done when the sun is shining, and the specific area of board is warm enough. The sun moves counter-clockwise in Antarctica, so players must time their ship launches and resource collection carefully. The goal is to get a majority of a resource by the end of the game in order to collect victory points in that category. The game ends when all the buildings are built or a player has placed all their scientists.
The box contains 6 cardboard buildings, 12 wooden resource buildings, 4 wooden expertise buildings, 9 cardboard research buildings, 16 cardboard prestige buildings, 60 cards, 1 wooden sun, 24 wooden ships, 64 wooden scientists, 24 wooden cubes, 2 cardboard markers, 4 victory point markers, a game board, and a rulebook. The game is for 2 -4 players, ages 10 and up, and plays in 45- 90 minutes. MSRP was not announced.
Passport will be having a very busy Q4, with multiple new North American editions of popular FunForge and other European publisher games planned (see “'Tokaido: Matsuri,' 'Apollo XIII,' 'Titan Race,' More”).
