The gold bikini “slave costume” worn by Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia in Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi has been sold at auction to an anonymous bidder for $96,000. Princess Leia was forced to wear the costume, which includes a chain collar, after she was captured by Jabba the Hut. The sexy metallic bikini is the stuff of many a fanboy’s dream and certainly one of the most memorable of all the costumes created for the Star Wars films so far.
As eOnline points out, the $96K price tag works out to be quite a bit per square inch of fabric. But bidding was opened at $80,000, so the winning bid was not especially high considering the iconic nature of the costume, which came with a certificate of authenticity from designer Richard Miller, and the fact the top price paid for a Star Wars relic is almost five times as much, the $450,000 paid by another anonymous bidder for a miniature model of Princess Leia’s Blockade Runner spaceship, which can be seen in the gallery here (see ”Screen-Used 'Star Wars' Items Up For Auction”).
