Doug Liman is the newest potential director for Fox's X-Men spinoff Gambit, according to Deadline. Most well-known for directing and producing The Bourne Identity and its first two sequels, Liman is an action movie veteran with an accomplished resume.
Liman's most recent movie, Edge of Tomorrow had a slow box office start but was critically very well-received (see "Young Women Flock to 'Stars'"). Liman's interest in a sequel to Edge could potentially derail Fox's selection of him as director of Gambit. If brought on board, he would replace Rise of the Planet of the Apes director Rubert Wyatt, who also left the movie because of scheduling conflicts (see "'Gambit' Loses Director").
Channing Tatum is still set for the role of Gambit, replacing actor Taylor Kitsch, who played the character in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Gambit is due in theaters on October 7, 2016 (see "Best in Shows-Q4 2016").
