Series creator Hiro Mashima will draw Fairy Tale Zero, a series which depicts the founding of the Fairy Tail guild. The story follows Mavis Vermilion, a servant of a guild master and his daughter Zera on Sirius Island. Mavis is mistreated by her masters, but she stays positive because her mother always said fairies never visit people who cry about problems. When the guild is attacked, Mavis saves Zera and they escape into the woods. Several years later, wizards arrive on the island looking for a power gemstone, and encounter the girls.

The perennial best-selling series (see “Top 10 Manga Franchises--Spring 2015”) has already launched several spin-off series including Fairy Girls! and Fairy Tail Blue Minstral  (see “New 'Attack on Titan,' 'Fairy Girls!,' 'Appleseed Alpha'”).
