Cartoon Network's Adult Swim has announced the return of Samurai Jack to the network in 2016. The show will be a part of Adult Swim's Toonami block and continue the story of Jack and his nemesis Aku. Cartoon Network Studios are currently at work in Los Angeles on production of the new season.
Samurai Jack debuted in 2001 and ran for four seasons before being cancelled in 2004. Show creator Genddy Tartakovsky (Dexter's Laboratory, Star Wars: Clone Wars) is again on board as executive producer for the new season. Tartakovsky's last major project was the animated film Hotel Transylvania 2, which was a solid commercial success (see "Bond & Charlie Brown Revive the Box Office"). His last television project was 2011's Sym-Bionic Titan, which also aired on Adult Swim's Toonami.
Samurai Jack has had some life outside of Cartoon Network. In late 2013, IDW Publishing produced a comic book that continued the series where it left off after its 2004 television cancellation (see "IDW's New 'Samurai Jack'").
