A series based on Marvel’s Punisher character is in development at Netflix, according to TV Line. The character is being introduced in Season 2 of Daredevil, with Jon Bernthal (Shane in The Walking Dead) cast in the role (see “Punisher Cast”).
Meanwhile Netflix announced over the weekend that it has ordered a second season of its hit Marvel series Jessica Jones, according to Variety. The first season of the series had an average audience of 4.8 million, according to ratings info released by NBC (see "NBC Reveals Netflix Ratings").
The news comes as Netflix is about to launch the second season of Daredevil (see "'Daredevil' Season 2 Poster, Pics, Date"), with Luke Cage, the third Marvel show from Netflix, also due to launch this year (see "Core 'Luke Cage' Cast Set").
If it gets made, a Marvel Punisher series would be the sixth planned show from Marvel in the Hell’s Kitchen sub-universe it’s using for its Netflix shows (with Defenders and Iron Fist in addition to Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, and Daredevil).
