Mayfair Games has announced a new edition of Uwe Rosenberg’s award-winning worker placement game Agricola, releasing on May 20.
The newly re-designed game has been broken into three products: the 1 - 4 players base game; the Agricola Family Edition and the Agricola 5 - 6 Player Extension.
The new Agricola base game features an updated and streamlined design, new wood components, and an expanded card deck with a “greatest hits” collection of cards from the original game and its expansions. The new edition is for 1 - 4 players instead of 1 - 5. MSRP was not announced.
Later in 2016, Mayfair will release the Agricola Family Edition. The game is intended as an introductory version, friendly to younger and casual players. This edition allows players to use actions and tiles but features no cards, yielding a streamlined game experience for the whole family which can be played in 90 minutes or less. MSRP was not announced.
In late 2016, Mayfair will release the Agricola 5 - 6 Player Extension. The expansion adds wood components for up to two additional players for the base game as wells as more cards handpicked and revised by Uwe Rosenberg. MSRP was not announced.
Mayfair also plans to make the new and revised cards available separately to players of the classic edition of the game at a future date.
Mayfair bought a controlling interest in German game publisher Lookout Games, the publisher of Agricola, in 2013 (see "Mayfair Acquires Lookout Games"). Agricola had been published in the U.S. by Z-Man Games (see "Knizia Captures Kudos for 'Keltis'"), but that contract has now expired.
