Certified Guaranty Company (CGC) has announced a new state-of-the-art comic holder. The new holder will be used on all comic submissions beginning on April 4.

The redesigned, patent-pending holder improves on the original by introducing sturdier construction and clearer display. The grade is in a larger box and the page quality is now noted underneath the grade.

Heat seal lines that were previously visible are eliminated because the inner well has been removed. The holder also includes new archival quality Mylar sheets for better paper preservation. The new design also accommodates for page overhang and other defects.

Additional features include the removal of frosting along the edges of the holder to allow full visibility of the book from all angles, and the top label being encased inside the holder instead of as a sticker along the outside of the top edge. The new holders will lock with previously released CGC holders for safety when stacked. The new outer plastic also better resists impacts.

Research and development of the new holder was orchestrated by Matt Nelson, who has now moved from CGC’s sister company Classic Collectible Services (CCS) to a new position as a Primary Grader at CGC and member of the company’s senior management team.

CGC currently offers a service to reholder previously certified comics in the new holders. Information is available on their website.

CGC also released a video which explains the features of the new holders.
