Asmodee NA will release Route 666, a Martin Wallace (Steam, Brass) game about zombies and survival along the famous Route 66 highway, during Q3.
Combining elements of the classic American road trip and a zombie apocalypse, Route 666 challenges players to travel from Chicago to the safety of California. Along the way, they must fight zombies, scrounge for supplies, and explore a variety of bizarre locations. In addition to zombies, they must contend with cannibals, haunted carnivals, and toxic gas clouds.
Mechanically, the game will include elements of auction games and resource management. Each player controls a small group of survivors, trying to survive as long as possible and score victory points. Resources are bid for turn order and to influence the events that will occur along the way, but must also be used to react to those events and encounters.Designer Wallace explained his design goals for the game, “My objective was to create an adventure style game with connectivity between actions and encounter… I am becoming increasingly drawn to designing games that have a strong ‘narrative.’ I think it is an interesting challenge to create ways to tell a story within a game but in a way that the game can be played repeatedly.”
Route 666 was developed and produced by the Space Cowboys studio. The game is designed for 1 to 4 players, ages 12 and up and plays in an hour or less. MSRP is $39.99.Asmodee initially announced the game last year, with a release planned for February 2016 (see “Asmodee’s Dragon Game ‘Ryu’”).
