Albino Dragon will release The Goonies: Adventure Card Game in August.
Based on the 1985 adventure comedy film, players take the role of the ragtag group of kids from the Goon Docks neighborhood, out to find the treasure of One-Eyed Willy the pirate, to save their homes from foreclosure and demolition. However, the criminal Fratellis family is also after the treasure, so players must avoid the pirate’s booby traps as well as dodge the Fratellis as well.
Players work cooperatively, pooling their cards as a team for collective actions, which may be clearing obstacles, moving between locations or escaping the Fratellis. Players win if they discover the gems hidden at five locations, and successfully hide them at places previously visited. Players can lose several ways: if five obstacles pile up at any location, if five Fratellis cards are in play, or the encounter deck is exhausted.
The game is for 1 – 4 players, ages 14 and up, and plays in 30 – 45 minutes. MSRP is $34.99.
The game was funded through a Kickstarter campaign that raised $58,382 from 1,811 backers ($32.24 / backer average.) Albino Dragon, which mainly produces licensed Bicycle playing card sets, told ICv2 it hopes to do other licensed games in the future.
