CBS has decided not to pick up Drew, the new, adult take on Nancy Drew, because the pilot tested “too female” for the CBS schedule, and there was no suitable time slot for the program, according to Deadline.  CBS ordered a pilot in February (see “Mid-February Geek TV Round-Up”).

The news caused an immediate firestorm on Twitter, under the hashtag “#Toofemale.”  Some noticed that CBS had also passed on a second season of Supergirl (see “’Supergirl’ and ‘Riverdale’ to the CW”), and had moved ahead with several new male-skewing series.

Drew is now being shopped to other networks, according to the report, which may mean that like Supergirl, the series can find a home on a cable network.
