Warner Bros.’ Dungeons & Dragons film adaptation is one step closer to reality with the announcement that Ansel Elgort is in early negotiations to star in the project.
According to Deadline, Elgort (The Fault in Our Stars, Divergent) will likely star as the main warrior in the fantasy adventure that will see a diverse band of adventurers embark on a dangerous journey to find mythical treasure. The film will be directed by Rob Letterman (see “'Dungeons & Dragons' Taps 'Goosebumps' Director”), based on a script by David Leslie Johnson (The Conjuring 2). Brian Goldner and Stephen Davis from Hasbro, Courtney Solomon and Allan Zeman from Sweetpea Entertainment, and Roy Lee are producing.
Vin Diesel has expressed interest in the film, being a fan of the source material, but no information on what role he would play has been announced.
The cinematic rights to Dungeons & Dragons were the source of a long-running legal battle that was finally settled last August (see “'D&D' Movie Set to Move Ahead”).
