The Season 6 finale of Game of Thrones hit a new ratings high for the series, drawing 8.9 million viewers in live plus same day viewership, according to Variety. While not The Walking Dead numbers, the episode was up 10% from the Season 5 finale viewership of 8.1 million.
HBO also revealed that the series drew an average of 23.3 million views across all platforms this season, which include multiple telecasts and encores, VOD, its cable subscriber site HBO Go, and its standalone subscription service HBO Now. The comparable Season 4 number was 18.4 million (see "'Game of Thrones' Bigger than 'Walking Dead'?"), so the series has grown substantially in the last two years.
The show’s ratings in the 18-49 demographic were better than all other scripted shows on broadcast or cable except The Walking Dead and Empire.
