Wyrd Miniatures has announced a new tabletop miniatures game set in the universe of Malifaux called The Other Side, scheduled to release in Q4.
Set on the Earth of the Malifaux world in 1906, The Other Side presents the “Battle of London,” fought between the world-hopping aquatic creatures of the Gibbering Hordes against the British forces of the King’s Empire. The game is played using small Fireteams of models mounted together on movement bases for ease of play. Compared to Malifaux, the new game uses streamlined and faster-playing rules while maintaining the steampunk/dark fantasy style of the earlier game. The two games will not be cross-compatible.
The Other Side uses the alternating activation method to keep both players more involved in the game. Combat is resolved using a deck of “fate cards,” which can be flipped randomly or played from the hand to directly influence the results. Morale plays a pivotal role in the game system, and units can be inspired to “Glory,” giving them superior stats and unique abilities.Wyrd plans to fund the project through a Kickstarter campaign. The success of the campaign will determine how many “Allegiances” (in addition to the Gibbering Hordes and King’s Empire) are produced, as well as the number of units that will be available for each Allegiance.
Wyrd recently announced new titles for its other games, Malifaux and Through the Breach (see “New Books for ‘Malifaux’ and ‘Through the Breach’”).
