Clokey With Creations
New York Comic Con News: On the eve of the NYCC Dynamite Entertainment announced the 2017 publication of Gumby, a massive art book that will be the essential compendium to the Claymation character’s colorful 60 year history.  Details of the volume, which will provide an inside look at the creative process of Gumby creator Art Clokey, will be released as the book’s publication nears.  Dynamite plans a 2017 release as part of the celebration of the Gumby’s 60th anniversary.

Dynamite has not announced the full extent of its Gumby license, but the publisher did indicate that there would soon be news of “other future Dynamite Gumby products,” which could conceivably include comic books and graphic novels (a Gumby’s Gang miniseries launched back in 2010, see “Gumby’s Gang Miniseries”).

Clokey’s creation first hit the big time as part of the Howdy Doody Show, but got his own series in 1957.  Clokey died in 2010 (see “Art Clokey RIP”), but his son Joe is heavily involved in the creation of the Gumby art book, which will have access to all sorts of inside information about the creation of the stop-motion icon, and how the character changed over the decades.  Check out the Gallery below for some of the artwork from the book.
