Luc Besson has partnered with Lexus to design Skyjet, the vehicle of the 28th Century that will feature prominently in Besson’s adaptation of the sci-fi epic Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, Variety reports.

The Skyjet, a single-person pursuit craft that Lexus describes as “defined by an athletic and aerodynamic shape,” features an adaptation of Lexus’s signature spindle grill and headlight design but otherwise doesn’t resemble the 21st Century Lexus (or any 21st Century vehicle for that matter). The vehicle features prominently at the 1:17 mark in the trailer that was released earlier today (see “First Trailer for 'Valerian and The City of a Thousand Planets'”).

Product placements aren’t unheard of in movies these days, but Besson’s partnership with Lexus appears to be taking such placements to whole new levels. Lexus’s Skyjet is actually the first design in an ongoing partnership between the company and Besson’s EuropaCorp and diverges from typical product placements, which usually employ existing products as opposed to new concepts.
