Ghost World creator Daniel Clowes’ latest graphic novel Patience has been optioned by Focus Features, THR is reporting.

Clowes will write the screenplay. He was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for Ghost World in 2001 (which starred young Scarlett Johansson and Thora Birch). He also wrote the screenplay for the upcoming film Wilson (see “'Wilson' Red Band Trailer”), which is also based on one of his  graphic novels.

Fantagraphics published the sci-fi love story in March (see “'Patience' From Daniel Clowes”), and it has been cropping up on numerous “Best of 2016” lists (see “'Forbes,' 'NPR,' and 'Mental Floss' Weigh in on 2016 Comics,” “Unusual, Independent Selections Top New Best of 2016 Comics Lists,” and “Amazon's Best Graphic Novels - 2016”). The story follows Jack, whose wife Patience is murdered. Ten years later he discovers a time machine that might allow him to fix the past, but he will have to journey through his wife’s early life before she met him.
