The new Thunderstone Quest system offers the deckbuilding game with modular adventuring experiences. Quests replace the old Dungeon system. Each Quest consists of a selection of dungeon tiles and monster cards that change from game to game. Each Quest is self-contained. Players compete to see who can assemble the best deck to score the most victory points, as they battle through the dungeon, level up, and eventually confront the Guardian. The game is for 2 – 4 players and plays in around 90 minutes. The new version of the game is not compatible with previous releases.
The Kickstarter campaign easily reached its $50,000 goal on the first day, and will run through Friday March 24. The campaign offers two reward levels, the “Adventurer” ($60.00) with the base game and one Quest, and the “Champion” ($100.00) with the base game and three Quests. Kickstarter is offering retailers a way to participate in the campaign with its retailer program, Kick It Here (KIT). Retailers coordinate with Alderac to take preorders from their customers at the “Champion” level, which will be delivered to the stores on the same timeline as the Kickstarter backers receive them (currently estimated as March 2018). Retailers will also have at least 60 days of exclusivity on the game prior to a retail release. Alderac cautioned that the final retail release version of Thunderstone Quest may look very different from the Kickstarter edition. The popular fantasy deckbuilding game was released in 2009 by Alderac (see “'Thunderstone'”), and spawned many expansions, including the Thunderstone Advance releases (see “'Thunderstone Advance: Towers of Ruin'”).
