Mayfair Games and Lookout Spiele are co-producing a game about zoo-building called Barenpark, releasing later this year.

In Barenpark, the players are managers of new zoological parks that specialize exclusively in various kinds of bears, such as grizzly bears, polar bears, even koala “bears” and pandas, similar to the free bear zoo of the same name in Bern, Switzerland.  The zoo builders compete to add the first and best enclosures and animal houses to their parks, along with facilities for visitors including food courts, bathrooms, and bear statues, all represented in the game by tiles.  The player who can fill up their park with the most valuable attractions wins the game.

Barenpark includes16 park boards, 1 supply board, and more than 100 zoo attraction tiles.  The game was designed by Phil Walker-Harding (Sushi Go!, Imhotep), and is intended for 2 to 4 players, ages 8 and up, with a playing time of 30 to 45 minutes.  MSRP was not announced.

Mayfair recently announced a new version of Lookout Spiele’s classic Le Havre (see “Mayfair Games Revives ‘Le Havre’”), also releasing this year.
