Stonemaier Games has announced plans to produce Scythe: The Wind Gambit, an expansion for its surprise hit alternate history mech-combat board game.

The Wind Gambit will include two expansion modules that can be added to the base game individually or combined together:

The first module, called Airships, was created by Kai Starck, a fan of the game, and developed by Scythe’s creators.  Airships adds flying battleships to the game.  In addition to being able to fly into any type of territory, airships will have random abilities determined at the start of each game.  The airships will be represented by a large 80mm long plastic model, with seven airships included in the expansion.

{IMAGE_4}Resolutions, the second module, comes from Scythe designer Jamey Stegmaier.  This expansion adds variable end-game conditions, through the use of eight “resolution tiles”.  One tile is drawn each game, which can force players to modify their strategy.

Scythe: The Wind Gambit is expected in the fourth quarter, with a target release set for the Spiel game fair in October.  The component list has not been finalized, but MSRP will likely be around $30.00.

An earlier expansion, Invaders From Afar, was released late last year (see “Gen Con Hit ‘Scythe’ Gets Expansion”).
