In anticipation of the sci-fi feature film Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, UK based publisher Cinebook will begin releasing volumes of the hardcover Valerian Complete Collection on May 31. Two more volumes will follow on July 5.

Valerian Complete Collection HC Vol. 1 includes books 1 and 2 of the series: The City of Shifting Waters -in its original two-part, 9 pages longer format – and The Empire of a Thousand Planets. It also includes book 0 Bad Dreams, translated into English for the first time, and a long, exclusive interview with the authors and director Luc Besson, which includes new art and sketches, studies and photographs from the upcoming movie. The 160-page, full-color hardcover has an MSRP of $34.99.

Valerian Complete Collection HC Vol. 2 includes volumes 3 -5: The Land Without Stars, Welcome to Alflolol and Birds of the Master.  It also includes part two of the exclusive interview with the authors and Besson; as well as an in-depth biography of series writer Pierre Christin. The 160-page, full-color hardcover has an MSRP of $34.99.

Valerian Complete Collection HC Vol. 3 includes volumes 6 – 8: Ambassador of the Shadows (the story that inspired Besson’s film), On the False Earths, and Heroes of the Equinox.  It also includes part three of the exclusive interview with the authors and Besson; as well as an in-depth biography of series artist Jean-Claude Mezieres. The 160-page, full-color hardcover has an MSRP of $34.99.

Cinebook began releasing translated editions of Jean-Claude Mezieres and Pierre Christin’s French Valerian and Laureline adventures in 2010. The publisher just released Valerian GN Vol. 14 – The Living Weapons, and will continue to release the individual graphic novels. There are 21 volumes as well as a short story collection and an encyclopedia in the series.
