The Savage Worlds role-playing game is about to embrace two very different Dark Horse Comics worlds with Pinnacle Entertainment Group’s announcement of The Goon and Fear Agent setting books, both scheduled to release in November.

Based on Eric Powell’s award winning comic, The Goon: The Roleplaying Game puts players in the anti-hero crime mob led by the titular Goon, or in the role of the Goon himself or other characters from the comic.  Players can act as the Goon’s enforcers, fight the Zombie Priest’s undead legion, Dr. Hieronymus Alloy’s robots, or other rivals.

This 192-page softcover book is bound in graphic novel format and includes a guide to the Town, Edges and Hindrances designed for The Goon setting, setting-specific rules, an adventure generator and stats for the villains and monsters of the comic, and an introductory Plot Point Campaign.  The book is not a stand-alone game, a copy of the Savage Worlds core rules are needed to play.  MSRP is $29.99.  A limited edition $39.99 hardcover version will also be offered.

The Fear Agent:  Roleplaying Game brings the pulp sci-fi comic created by Rick Remender, Tony Moore, and Jerome Opena to tabletop.  Set in a galaxy where alien races have devastated the Earth during their many wars, humanity struggles to find a place in universe filled with terror and adventure.  Heath Huston of Texas forms the Fear Agents, bent on revenge.

The 192-page graphic novel format softcover book includes background information about the setting, stats for the main characters, villains, and creatures of the comic books, as well as setting-specific game rules, Edges and Hindrances, spaceships, equipment, and more.  An adventure generator, a number of “flashback scenarios” to bring players up to speed, and a Plot Point Campaign round out the book.  This is not a stand-alone game, a copy of the Savage Worlds core rules are needed.  MSRP is $29.99, and a $39.99 limited edition hardcover version will also be offered.

Pinnacle will also offer custom dice sets and miniatures for both games (MSRP $9.99 each), and a GM screen and adventure for each game (MSRP $19.99), in addition to the two books.

The project is being funded through Kickstarter campaigns, both of which broke their funding goals within 24 hours.  Both Kickstarters offer a retailer-only backer package, which includes two copies of the book in both softcover and hardcover format, two GM screens, and two copies of the Savage Worlds Deluxe Core Rules, along with a complete set in PDF format and all stretch goals unlocked during the campaign.  Kickstarter backer fulfillment is scheduled for November, with release into the trade to follow.

Adopting other settings has been part of Pinnacle’s efforts to support Savage Worlds for some time.  Last year, the company made a deal to bring the world of Rifts to the game system (see “Pinnacle Unveils ‘Rifts’ for ‘Savage Worlds’”).
