Privateer Press is producing Company of Iron, a companion tabletop miniatures game alongside its well-established Warmachine and Hordes games.  The new game, set in the same steampunk fantasy world, will release in October.

Company of Iron presents smaller battles than the other two games, with squad-level engagements involving only 10 to 15 miniatures.  Players field armies of units, solos, and light warjacks or warbeasts only, with no warcasters, warlocks, or heavy models.  In this game, each model acts independently, rather than as part of a unit, using a modified version of the core rules from Warmachine and Hordes.  Two decks of cards influence the action, which features players alternating actions using one figure at a time.

Privateer’s Chief Creative Officer Matt Wilson described the intent of Company of Iron as “an ideal entry point for new players who want to play in the world of Warmachine and Hordes, but it’s also a product the existing Warmachine and Hordes community has been requesting for years.”

The game will be offered as a boxed set that includes everything two players need to start playing, including rules, cards, tokens, and two starting forces of unpainted miniatures:  a group of Cygnar Stormblades and a band of Farrow Brigands.  Each team features a never-before-seen character, either Lieutenant Gwen Keller for Cygnar or Agata, Queen of Carnage for the Farrow Brigands.  MSRP is $74.99.

All of the models in Company of Iron can be used in Warmachine and Hordes games, and all allowed models from those two games can be used in Company of Iron.

Privateer recently added a new faction to Hordes (see “Grymkin Faction Joins ‘Hordes’”). The company is once again running a “Summer Rampage” OP event this year (see “Privateer Gears Up for ‘Summer Rampage 2017’”).
