To support the updated reboot of the venerable Legend of the Five Rings card game as part of its “Living Card Game” line, Fantasy Flight Games has announced a Launch Program that will feature three in-store events.

Stores wishing to participate in the Legend of the Five Rings:  The Card Game Launch Program can order a Launch Kit.  Each kit will include enough materials to support 12 players for all three in-store events, including the “Launch Party” during the weekend of the game’s release, an “Imperial Summons” event, and the “Way of the Rings” tournament.

The Launch Party is intended to introduce players to the new game.  Participants are expected to purchase a Core Set and construct 30-card decks that they will use to learn how to play the game.  Participants receive a lanyard, a badge, and a sticker sheet; while seven randomly-chosen players each get an extended art clan champion card.

For the Imperial Summons, players need to construct full-size decks.  This event will take place after the clan Keepers and Seekers are determined at the upcoming Winter Court World Championships, scheduled for November 1 – 5, which will add new deck-building requirements.  Each attendee will receive an alternate art Imperial Favor card, and a random winner from each clan will receive an extended art clan champion card.

The first tournament in the new program will be the Way of the Rings tournament, using full decks.  Each participant in this event will receive a commemorative pin, and one player receives an extended art clan champion card.

Starting next year, the organized play program will include weekly, monthly, and quarterly in-store events, special Kotei and Grand Kotei tournaments, and an annual Winter Court World Championship.

Fantasy Flight will premier its new version of the Legend of the Five Rings at Gen Con (see “‘Legend of the Five Rings’ Reborn”).
