BOOM! Studios has acquired rights to produce a graphic novel tied to Wet Hot American Summer, the company announced. It plans an original graphic novel to street June 2018.
The property is based on a 2001 parody film, which died at the box office but obtained cult status on home video. The film, about the last day of summer camp, starred Janeane Garofalo, David Hyde Pierce, Molly Shannon, Paul Rudd, Christopher Meloni, Amy Poehler, Bradley Cooper, Elizabeth Banks, Judah Friedlander, and others.
Netflix produced two eight-episode series based on the property: a prequel, Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp, released in July of 2015; and a sequel, Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later, released August 4 of this year.
The graphic novel will be set between the film and the prequel series. No creative team has been announced except for the cover artist: Joe Quinones.
