Following on the heels of its successful launch at Gen Con, Fantasy Flight Games has announced the first Dynasty Pack expansion for its Legend of the Five Rings: The Card Game, which will release in Q4.
Fantasy Flight Games' plans for the just released Legend of the Five Rings (see "'Legend of the Five Rings' Reborn") combine the company’s now-familiar Living Card Game model with the community involved storyline that guided the development of the original game under Alderac Entertainment Group’s banner. The first fan-influenced turn in the storyline was made following the premier event at Gen Con, which will impact future organized play.
That impact will be felt in the first expansion set for the game, Tears of Amaterasu, the first part of the "Imperial Cycle," which will describe the game’s first story arc. Tears of Amaterasu expands on the themes of the Legend of the Five Rings: The Card Game Core Set while focusing on the Imperial Favor game mechanic through new cards.
The expansion set comes with three copies of each of twenty new game cards, including cards designed for use by all seven of the game’s clans and neutral cards that can be used by all clans. The new cards reflect the political struggles in the empire, which in turn influence which "Keeper" and "Seeker" cards can be used by the various clans in official events, including the Launch Kit events scheduled to occur over the next few months (see "'Legend of the Five Rings' Organized Play Announced"). MSRP is $14.95.
The next chapter in the Legend of the Five Rings story will be decided at the "Winter Court" World Championships in November.
